The
Young Israel Women's League

The
Young Israel Women's League is active in the community on many levels, from organizing
social activities for the women of the shul and the community at large. Many of
these social events (like Purim parties and concerts) often double as fundraisers
for various projects to benefit the shul and the community but many times are
purely for "the fun of it". Annual fundraising projects for the
shul include the "Sampling of Sukkot" and Mishloach Manot.

"Sampling of Sukkot" is an idea which was taken from a shul in
Chicago and modified to suit the needs of our community. The project is run on
a zero-cost basis for the shul and its revenues grow from year to year. Each participant
contributes a dish or two ranging from homemade wines, liquors, challot and unusual
salads, to mouth-watering desserts and main dishes. Our chefs include women, men
and kids. A catalog of offerings is printed and distributed and the dishes are
sold on the basis of a closed-bid system.
The
Mishloach Manot project is our biggest fundraiser and reaches the entire
Karnei Shomron, (even sometimes) cities like Raanana and Petach Tikva. Each participant
pays a minimal fee per recipient to whom he would like to send Misholach Manot.
On Purim Day, each recipient receives a beautiful basket (sometimes a bowl, planter
or even a tool box!) filled with wine, cookies ,candy and other treats. Accompanying
the basket is a list of the people who participated in this person's list. The
entire community looks forward to seeing what the committee has chosen that year
to be the "basket". It is usually a well-kept secret until the baskets
are delivered on Purim morning. The Women's League also welcomes new neighbors
into the community, organizes Tzedaka functions, and kiddushes for the shul. One
special Kiddush at the end of the year is given in honor of that year's graduates.
We announce every graduate by name and try to encourage the Seniors to "run"
the tefilot that Shabbat. We even ask one of them to give a "drasha"
to the Kehilla in shul. In this way, we encourage the young people to feel more
connected to the shul and its future.

Everyone
has their favorite cookbook That "old friend" that always comes
through for you The quick easy recipes that use just what you have in the
house The dishes that guarantee you compliments each time If you're like
most people, your best cookbooks come from organizations or shuls... Those
recipes that "real people" make That's why we're offering you The
Young Israel of Neve Aliza's own cookbook,
The Shomron Chef
With
hundreds of recipes that the women and men of Neve Aliza call their own. This
English, loose-leaf bound cookbook is filled with hundreds of recipes that you
can make in your own kitchen. All ingredients available here in Israel. Measurements
and temperatures American and Israeli standards.
Appetizers, Soups,
Meat, Dairy, Salads, Desserts!!! You'll never need to own another cookbook! The
Shomron Chef is a cookbook that, like Ginot Shomron itself, represents a cross-section
of Israeli society. The recipes are truly an eclectic selection. The "Anglos"
have submitted recipes that hark back to the old countries, as well as those with
a taste of our current home. The native Israelis contributed even more local color,
though their recipes, too, offer flavors from other lands and traditions. We
have aimed for diversity and originality, as we tried to combine ease with sophistication.
We had in mind our fellow Israelis as well as our friends and relatives abroad.
All are welcome to read, to share, to indulge and, most importantly, to enjoy.
B'Tayavon! The Shomron Chef can
be bought for only 100 NIS from Sharon Nussbacher (09-792-9622), Michal
Knoller (09-792-9375) Shira Schwartz (09-792-9043), or ordered via email
(snussbacher@yahoo.com). There is an additional charge for shipping. This
is the perfect gift for a Shabbat by friends, a new bride, a house warming, or
Chanuka.
